All-party candidate Gauck to become Germany's Federal President - Merkel pushed to accept her 'not first choice'

Well, Mme Chancellor was neither amused by having seen Wulff's departure to political nirvana nor by Gauck's being supported by her junior partner F.D.P. that really played the last bargaining chip on the table left to keep on staying alive in government till the end of the term.

There will neither be a state crisis nor early elections. Who has lost? The grumpy iron lady Merkel who 'likes' to kiss the French president, thus promoting the Franco-German axis, called 'Merkozy'. Who has won? Germany, for sure.

Merkel's being pissed off is understandable. She used to be the one and only decision maker, and now this.

The 'boy-group' and political dwarf in recent polls around Philipp Roesler, called Federal F.D.P., that has already been labeled "Förderung der Pubertät", meaning promoting the puberty, or "Fast Drei Prozent" = nearly three percent for its dismal policy-making has finally pushed Merkel by joining forces with the opposition leaders of SPD 'Red' Gabriel and Greens' Kuenast. Btw, the former communists and socialists of the Leftists "Die Linke" have been sidelined in this case.

Merkel with her doctorate in physics knows quite a thing or two in accelerating particles, esp. political ones. Getting rid of her internal competitors in terms of chancellorship has been her usual tactic so far. Turning coats if necessary is the other side of hers. Albeit still popular in the polls, her invincibility has surely gotten some dents.

Merkel, a Lutheran pastor's daughter, first rejected the former first Federal Commissioner of the Archives of former GDR State Security Ministry and Lutheran pastor from Mecklenburg-W Pomerania, Joachim Gauck (72), and has finally been pushed to accept the traffic light "Red-Yellow-Green" candidate.

Thank goodness!
