Well, general secretary of Germany's federal party branch of FDP's, Lindner (32), quits over the internal party poll on the 'European Financial Stability Facility' (EFSF) and its premature leakage on the results by party's chief, Roesler (38).
A party whose initials could also be "Fast Drei Prozent" (meaning: Nearly three percent), is currently heading toward voter's oblivion. Polling at three per cent on national level, the Roesler-led party of German liberals, eh, free-democrats, won't be qualified for seats in the lower house of German parliament, the Bundestag, if federal elections are held on next Sunday.
Even the FDP's kindergarten cop, Bundestag FDP's club leader, Rainer Brüderle (66), couldn't keep Lindner and Roesler together, why???
What's the main reason of the rapid descent of the German FreeDems?
Well, IMO, Merkel is to blame for this. Her steady 'njet' on tax reforms, desired by all liberal top guns and Westerwelle, currently Foreign Minister and former chief of the federal FDP branch who resigned to make place for Roesler as Vice-Chancellor, has silenced the junior partner for quite some two years.
The FDP could have retaliated by questioning the coalition with the conservative Christian-Dems (and the Bavarian Christian Social Union) at early stage of the new political colors of 'black-yellow' versus former Merkel I cabinet of 'black-red' grand coalition with the left-of-center German 'Labour' SocialDems.
Neither Westerwelle nor Roesler have been able to compete with almost "Thatcherite" iron-lady, Angela Merkel.
The rejuvenated 'dream-team', eh, rather 'boy group' of Roesler-Lindner has failed badly. The desillusioned voters have kicked the FDP out of state parliaments during the 2011 regional elections, giving headaches only to FreeDems.
The SocialDems also quite pissed off with some regional setbacks because of 'green successes' have saved Merkel's butt until the end of her term, fall 2013, by forming 'red-black' grand coalitions in Mecklenburg- W Pomerania and the City State of Berlin where the governing mayor Wowereit booted the Greens.
Now, a German government crisis may develop in the short run caused by liberal 'soft eggs' who don't have the power to show their fist to the 'Iron Lady'
If the Libs cannot come up with comprehensible solutions the prospect of early elections will increase. The FreeDems will then be dumped out of parliament, not a neat prospect of a party that had highy respected top players, such as Scheel, Genscher, Graf Lambsdorff and others.
